BRUNEL IN COLOUR
Brunel in Colour is a highly energetic and visual one man show in the form of a dramatised lecture performed by Brian Popay, senior performer at Natural Theatre Company, who coincidentally bears an uncanny resemblance to Brunel’s father. The show aims to introduce Brunel to young people in an amusing and professional manner and contains the company’s trade mark clever props and humorous characterisations, including a working train set and a smoking stovepipe hat.
The show pays tribute to Brunel’s lasting physical engineering legacy and the example he set for following generations of engineers and innovators. It is aimed at older primary and secondary school pupils. The performance includes a question and answer section and a competition to win a model of Brunel’s SS Great Britain. 'Brunel in Colour' can be linked to ongoing school projects or be seen as a stand-alone educational entertainment.
Natural Theatre has a world-wide reputation for original, entertaining, somewhat quirky theatre presented with high production values. The company has won many awards for its accessible work, which often uses hilarious means to express dry historical facts.
Production Team:
Brian Popay: Writer and performer, is a founder member of Natural Theatre (1970) and is one of our funniest and most original performers. He has researched a lot of interesting background detail, such as what Mrs Brunel chose to wear when she met Queen Victoria.
Phil Martin: Prop maker, is the company’s resident boffin. Phil recently made a radio-controlled, life-sized, bike-riding panda, which proved to be a show-stopper in a London production of Aladdin.
Pavel Douglas: Director, has directed several Natural Theatre shows in the past, including The Jekyll and Hyde Follies, which won the London Fringe Awards for Best Comedy.
